Register as a mystery shopper

Do you like shopping? How about dining out and trying new places? Here is an opportunity for you to become a mystery shopper for Market Vision.

What is mystery shopping? What do mystery shoppers do?

How do customers perceive the services that companies offer? How does a company measure the quality of customer service that its employees deliver? Mystery shopping is a method of information gathering that helps companies assess their operations from the customers' point of view.

Simply put, mystery shopping refers to visits that are made to a company's retail establishments or service centers, hotels, restaurants etc by 'mystery shoppers' - people who pose as regular customers. Mystery shoppers may make a purchase or do window-shopping or just make an enquiry much as normal customers would. During the process, they evaluate various operational aspects of the establishment such as customer service, cleanliness, merchandising display and service quality.

After the visit, shoppers complete an evaluation form that is submitted to Market Vision. Market Vision then compiles the information submitted by the different mystery shoppers and provides the results of the exercise to the company. Such exercises provide businesses with an unbiased opinion of how they are perceived by the customer.

Besides on-site visits, Market Vision also undertakes telephone mystery shopping on behalf of its clients who aim to improve upon the telephone skills of their employees.

How do I get mystery shopping assignments?

Market Vision has a database of registered pre-qualified people to perform mystery shopping. To qualify as a registered mystery shopper, you must complete the online application form. If you qualify, you will be registered on our database. When an assignment matching your qualifications becomes available, rest assured you will be contacted.

There is no compulsion to undertake the assignment you are contacted for.

What qualifications are required to become a mystery shopper with Market Vision?

The mystery shopper must be at least 18 years old to register with Market Vision. Both males and females are eligible to become mystery shoppers.

  1. The mystery shopper must be at least 18 years old to register with Market Vision. Both males and females are eligible to become mystery shoppers.
  2. A good mystery shopper is always anonymous. A mystery shopper should be able to visit the same location a number of times without being detected by the staff.
  3. Shoppers must read and follow instructions carefully and fill out evaluation forms correctly and exhaustively.
  4. A good mystery shopper must have excellent observation skills and should be detail-oriented. Mystery shoppers do not take the forms into the outlet they visit; neither do they take notes when they are visible during their shopping time. They must be able to remember and record the details correctly on the form after leaving the premises.
  5. A mystery shopper must be completely reliable and trustworthy. The date and time allocated for the visit must be adhered to and the assignment must be fully completed with all questions answered truthfully and honestly. Reliable shoppers submit their reports within the 24-hour deadline after completing the visit.
  6. Forms must be completed in detail. Sections cannot be left blank and questions cannot be overlooked. Written observations must match with the way questions are scored. A good mystery shopper will always go through the evaluation questionnaire thoroughly and will clarify any doubts before going to shop.
  7. After the shopping report or the evaluation form is submitted, the project executive will review it in detail. The mystery shopper must be accessible to the project executive during daytime hours and available to discuss the report, if necessary.
  8. A mystery shopper cannot shop a retail store, hotel, restaurant or any other company where he / she or any relatives or members of his / her household are employed. Failure to comply with these conditions will disqualify the mystery shopper from any assignments in the future.
  9. A mystery shopper can work part-time on our mystery shopping assignments. Although timing preferences may be indicated in the application form, he / she should ideally have a flexible schedule that allows visits during various times of the day, and evenings.
  10. When contacted for a particular assignment, a registered mystery shopper may or may not be able to or simply not wish to undertake the assignment at that point in time. He / she must indicate his or her acceptance or non-acceptance within 24 hours of receiving the invitation. Failure to respond within the 24-hour time limit will reduce the opportunities for being considered for future assignments.
  11. A mystery shopper must have access to a computer, a working email address and the ability to submit the evaluation report online. In specific cases where the report may need to be faxed, access to a fax machine will be necessary.

What does a mystery shopper earn?

Each shopping assignment has different arrangements. The normal range of payments is $8 - $25, although some may be higher. For some shops, such as a restaurant where you will derive a personal benefit, the payment may be to reimburse you for the cost of a meal up to a pre-fixed limit.

Telephone mystery shopping can earn you anywhere between $25-50 for a pre-set number of outbound calls within a specified timeframe.

The payment on each assignment is informed prior to you agreeing to do the shop.

Checks are mailed out on the 25th of each month for shops done the previous month. For example, a shop done in April would be paid on May 25.

What is the application process?

If you feel you have the potential to be a mystery shopper with Market Vision and would like to apply, please read our terms and conditions before proceeding to our online application.
